Hand Therapy at RIHOC
The RI Hand & Orthopaedic Center offers full evaluation and treatment services for patients with common injuries and disorders of the shoulders arms or hands, or who need surgery for cumulative trauma disorders, fractures, tendon repairs, joint replacements or ligament injuries. After a detailed evaluation is performed an individualized treatment plan is established for each patient from injury or surgery through recovery. The plan allows patients to return to optimal functional levels in their daily activities.
All treatment is under the direction of Victoria Moitoso, OTR/L, who specializes in hand therapy and works closely with Leonard Hubbard, MD.
We use the latest in rehabilitation modalities including a new Medx Phototherapy Laser, the computerized BTE Exercise Machine, electrical stimulation and iontophoresis.
RIHOC occupational therapy services include:
- management of swelling and acute or chronic pain
- desensitization and sensory re-education following a nerve injury
- fabrication of splints to prevent or correct injury or deformities
- training and/or adaptation for patients to independently perform activities of daily living
- management and implementation of exercise programs to address decreased dexterity, strength, and/or coordination problems
- conditioning prior to returning to work
- therapeutic massage
- management of hypertropic or hypersensitive scars
- management of open or sutured wounds to aid healing
